In the central part of Lanzarote, it seems as if the hand of tourism has never touched it. The locals still use farming techniques from yesteryear, living at a slow pace, watching life go past from the safety of their blue and green doorsteps, or lawn bowling or playing cards at the local social clubs.

Our route starts in the Village of Teguise, Historic-Artistic Site that was the old capital of the island of Lanzarote from the 15^th until the 19^th century. After introducing ourselves and explaining our itinerary we will leisurely stroll along the village alleyways and through its history and tales.

Then we will drive down the incredible road to Famara where Manrique vacationed and which today is a surfing paradise. The views of the cliff, the 6Km long beach with its waves and the sand streets will not go unnoticed by anybody.

It is said that whoever sets foot in Famara will be charmed forever by the magic of Lanzarote…

We will continue on to the villages of Soo and Tiagua where we will discover unique and miraculous farming techniques such as crop fields covered in volcanic sand and ¨jable¨ and how the local population has managed to survive on such an apparently arid island. We´ll make a rest stop in Mozaga for a typical canarian snack.

The finishing touch will be at the geographical center of the island to visit the Peasant House-Museum (Casa-Museo del Campesino) with its artisan square and meet with local artisans. This place is César Manrique’s homage to the agrarian world.
