Everyone can find happiness somewhere on the island. Lanzarote has unique landscapes and is a destination that’s suitable to all tastes: for nature, art, culture and gastronomy lovers… It’s also a peaceful and ideal destination for families, couples, groups of friends, lone travelers, young people and elderly people… There are many routes by car in Lanzarote.

The climate is very mild all year long, with an average temperature of 20º Celsius and no more than 180mm of rain, which makes it suitable for all types of activities and visits during any season of the year.

Lanzarote can be covered easily by car, since it’s a small island and the distances are short. It’s the fourth largest island in surface area (807 km2) and is roughly 60 km long and 20 km wide.

IN YOUR OWN CAR

Almost everyone has a car on the island since public transport is only efficient between the capital city of Arrecife and the tourist centers and larger towns. Even so, there isn’t usually much traffic on the island nor traffic jams.

The road network is in excellent condition and well-marked. A noteworthy fact is that there are only traffic lights in Arrecife and on some stretches where people tend to speed. These lights only turn red if the speed limit is exceeded.

Regarding radars, the only fixed ones are on the LZ 2 motorway between Playa Honda and Arrecife in both directions but watch out! There are several mobile radars that constantly change their location and can even be operational in urban areas.

VEHICLE RENTAL

Renting a car is quite cheap in comparison with mainland Spain and other countries even though the price varies according to the number of days, whether it’s high or low season, the category, the rental car company and the insurance taken out. A good option is to book it on the internet in advance and pick it up at the airport, or if you prefer, you can have it made available with your accommodation. Other advantages that the island offers are the short distances and the reduced price of fuel.

You may leave your accommodation all day long, have meals en route at a small typical restaurant on the coast or inland, or, if you prefer you can have a picnic at the beach or inside of a volcano. You can also arrange half-day outings and enjoy your accommodation. Likewise you could do routes that combine cultural visits and tours, beaches, hiking, gastronomy, museums, sports activities…

So that you can see as much as possible and don’t do mileage in vain we recommend that you tour the island in parts:

  1. North: Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes (Greens’ Cave), Haría, aloe vera plantation.
  2. Center-East: Arrecife,  César Manrique Foundation, Cactus Garden, El Mojón, Los Valles.
  3. Center-West:  Lagomar Museum, Teguise, Famara, Tao, Peasant House-Museum, La Geria
  4. South: Timanfaya National Park, El Golfo, Los Hervideros, Janubio Salt Flats, Papagayo beaches.

On Lanzarote, there are several sightseeing sites that we could recommend visiting by bus tours or private excursions, such as the Fire Mountains in the National Park Timanfaya and La Cueva de Los Verdes (or the Greens’ Cave). The waiting time for each can be between one and two hours if you go by car.

You are going to find the links to different excursions and experiences that we could offer there to the visitors below:
